October

At the start of October the harvest is abundant, fruit trees are laden, squashes, pumpkins and autumn raspberries are ripening for the picking. Morning mists are accompanied by mellowing leaves of red, amber, yellow and gold triggered by the fading light and shortening days. The flower borders offer up seeds in an array of sculptural forms, poppies like pepper pots, firework alliums, sea holly spikes and stunning grasses backlit by the Autumn sunshine.
It is a busy time for gardeners as we pick and gather harvests and save seed for a new season but this is also a month of new beginnings. Each bulb we plant is a beacon of hope, something to look forward to and a promise of brighter days.
Its peak time to identify the need for next years structural supports and get them in place over the next few months!
