The trees are deeper green and the canopy is closing in. This is the first of the waning months in the garden, giddy midsummer is gone.

In the flower border the gardener attempts to stall this moment, deadheading and snipping, lupin, cornflower, cosmos, roses. Prompting the plant to flower again by misdirection!
